Feral Fetish
In collaboration with Studio ThinkingHand (2021)
What does it mean to touch the feral? To be witnessed by it? Feral Fetish is a poetic, unsettling meditation on our relationship to so-called "nature" - the ways we aestheticise, manipulate, and project desire onto it. Dressed in vivid red latex, I entered into tactile ritual with a living SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast), exploring dominance, surrender, and interspecies connection. I trampled it, struck it, caressed it - until finally, it claimed me in return, enfolding my body in its translucent membrane.
In a landscape where nature is engineered and fetishised, this performance asked: what is more alien - bacteria, latex, the body in devotion - or the sterile geometry of monoculture fields? Through pain, intimacy, and play, Feral Fetish confronts our hunger for purity, control, and transformation, inviting a messier, more honest kinship with the more-than-human world.
